A Tail By Moonlight

The water was blue, deep deep blue…… with depths so dark and the sea so deep. The deep blue sea. The waves rocked back and forth on the beaches of a remote island, somewhere far far away. The moon shimmered like a diamond in the sky. Its reflection danced upon the waves and so did she. Her name was Sabrina, Sabrina the mermaid.

Lights glistened in her wet hair, they sparked like bright stars. She dipped in and out to show off her scaly tail and it sparkled like the rest of her. Soon she opened her mouth and sang. Her enchanting voice echoed through the underwater cracks and caves. It brought calm to all who heard it. Even the fish below moved to it and made merry.

She was constantly surrounded by the ocean’s beauty and admiration but still, her lonely life was yearning to fill a void she could not define. She often gazed wistfully at the world above and wondered about those who walked on it . “How could this be?”

And then it came. It was just another night and the moon was once again bright and full. In a place where the forest met the sea, Sabrina arose to the surface near the shore. Crickets chirped away and the cool breeze whistled through the trees, soon to be drowned by the sound of a howling wolf. It was hauntingly familiar, it echoed through the forest and there he was. His name was Wilder. He was a cursed man.
